Twelfth Schedule Of Indian Constitution

Schedule 12 of the Indian Constitution deals with the territories that were formerly known as the State of Saurashtra. The State of Saurashtra was a former state in western India that was formed in 1948, shortly after India gained independence. The state consisted of 222 princely states and was merged into Bombay State in 1956.

The schedule outlines the territories that were formerly part of the State of Saurashtra and the provisions that were made for their inclusion in the Indian Union. It also details the representation that the territories were to have in the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha, the two houses of the Indian parliament.

One of the key provisions of Schedule 12 is the delimitation of the constituencies that are to be represented in the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha. This is done in accordance with the provisions of the Delimitation Commission Act, 1952, which provides for the readjustment of constituencies after every census.

The schedule also outlines the manner in which the territories are to be represented in the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha. Under the provisions of the Constitution, the territories that were formerly part of the State of Saurashtra are to be represented by members of parliament who are elected by the people of the territories.

In addition to outlining the representation of the territories in the Indian parliament, Schedule 12 also provides for the administration of the territories. The administration of the territories is to be carried out by the government of the state in which the territories are situated. This means that the government of the state is responsible for the implementation of policies and programmes in the territories.

In conclusion, Schedule 12 of the Indian Constitution provides for the inclusion of the territories that were formerly part of the State of Saurashtra in the Indian Union. It outlines the representation of the territories in the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha, and provides for the administration of the territories by the government of the state in which they are situated.
